Catch the Family Commonwealth  Vision! Beginning with our great grandchildren in mind… We create a self-reliance based learning community that inspires life skills using creative, hands-on and disciplined instruction in the Classical Liberal Arts.  We strive to cultivate a natural learning, liberty mindset from which character lessons founded in truth, virtue and discovery of individual talents and  life’s purpose will sustain and lead future generations. We are inspiring children through the phases of natural human development and multiple intelligence engagement.  This is the same training as that of history’s most thoughtful contributors.  We support parents in training children's minds, hands and hearts to be adept at contemplative thinking, hand work and critical analysis before rendering judgment on the issues they will face in the future. We realize our legacy as we send our grown children into the world as citizens and statesmen who will be prepared to take up positions of leadership in their families, communities and country.   A natural outgrowth of this education is the development of the Six Character Traits of a Statesman: Virtue-Wisdom-Diplomacy-Courage-The ability to Inspire Greatness in Others-The Ability to Move the Cause of Liberty   ~Liberty derives from the Latin libertas, from "liber" (library), to be "FREE". Our co-op is a "Liber" Learning Environment  Rather than building a union of classes, teachers and students, we are building a community of families who inspire each other in love of learning and community service. Each parent and student in our co-op is integrally invested in the education and development of every single person in the group, because directly or indirectly, each of these people will impact our own lives and our community as a whole.  There are over thirty well established New Commonwealth Home School Cooperatives  in the United States, at different stages of development. We are expecting to double that number this year. These studies and disciplines grow students into engaged, principle-centered citizens and statesmen as they gain a greater vision of their country, their world and their own life’s purpose. Leaders of this new generation will depend upon this sound Literary Education, cementing their ability to interact with the ideas and arguments of history's most thoughtful people. Students are mentored by their peers’ parents and hired tutors. Each student has stewardship over what they learn through weekly, self-contained, mentored community service projects, simulations, apprenticeships and colloquiums.  A commonwealth signifies, “the common good or happiness; thus it is a form to secure the public good.” While usually associated with governments of countries, “commonwealth” can be applied to many other aspects of society. A commonwealth home school takes the “co-op” group to the next level: to a community that self-governs and exists beyond the creators, and stands the test of time.  Our Mission:   Supporting families who are taking back the responsibility of freely educating their own children.  The Family Commonwealth Home School Cooperative of the Classical Liberal Arts is a self-reliant, "liber"  based, parent volunteer cooperative and exists for impact, not for profit.  Meet Patti Cohen   Patti is a retired Child Development Specialist with a working background in Montessori, Waldorf and Reggio Emilia Education.  As a sixteen-year home school mother, community organizer and leader, Patti continued her own higher education in the Classical Liberal Arts. Today Ms. Patti, as she is known, is a sought-after alternative education mentor for both children and adults.  She specializes in facilitating Classical Liberal Arts learning circles, and spends much of her time training parents in her community and across the US in setting up their own learning cooperatives and personal home schools. She continues to direct and mentor at the fifteen-year-old Family Commonwealth of the Classical Liberal Arts Home School Cooperative in Naples, Fl.     .
